Ghost of Tsushima sold more than thirteen million copies, won Best Art Direction and the Players' Voice award at The Game Awards 2020, and still looks astonishing. The Director's Cut adds the Iki Island expansion. What it costs you depends almost entirely on where you buy it.
An island that leads you by the wind
It is 1274 and the Mongol Empire has landed on Tsushima. You play Jin Sakai, one of the last samurai of his clan, who abandons the code he was raised by to become the Ghost. There is no waypoint arrow: swipe the pad and the wind blows through the grass towards your goal, while birds and foxes lead you to secrets. It is the most elegant navigation in any open world.
Swordplay is built on stances you switch to read different enemies, with parries and standoffs that play out like a film duel. Kurosawa Mode turns the whole game into grainy black and white, with the director's estate's blessing.
More than the campaign
The Director's Cut includes Iki Island, a roughly five-hour story about Jin's father and a shaman's tribe, reached from the second act. Legends is a free online co-op mode drawn from Japanese myth, with four classes, two-player story missions, four-player survival and a 2v2 Rivals mode, and it works across PC, PS4 and PS5.
Photo Mode deserves a mention of its own: you can set wind, weather, time of day and even Jin's expression, and the island rewards it constantly.
Where it stumbles
Side quests and camp-clearing get repetitive, the stealth is basic and the camera struggles in group fights. Sucker Punch stopped updating the PlayStation versions in 2022. It is rated PEGI 18 for graphic violence.
Who should buy it
Anyone who loves samurai cinema or simply wants to spend thirty hours somewhere beautiful. Check PS Plus Extra first; otherwise the PC version is the value choice.

The checkout: buying Ghost of Tsushima in the UK
On PC the Director's Cut is £49.99 on Steam and is also sold on the Epic Games Store. On the PlayStation Store the PS5 version is £69.99 and the PS4 version £59.99, with no discount running on the day we checked. That is a £20 gap for the same game and the same expansion.
PlayStation owners have a better route: the Director's Cut for PS4 and PS5 is in the PS Plus Extra Game Catalogue, and therefore in Premium too. Owners of the original 2020 PS4 game can upgrade to the PS4 Director's Cut for £15.99.
On PC, the single-player game and Iki Island need no PlayStation Network account. Since October 2025 Legends is a separate free add-on on Steam, and it does need a free PSN account; on PS4 and PS5 Legends needs PS Plus.

None. There is no in-game store or paid currency. The only paid items are edition upgrades on PlayStation; PEGI's in-game purchases notice on the Director's Cut refers to that upgrade.
