Everyone knows how Tetris works. What Tetris Effect adds is a reason to feel it: every rotation, drop and line clear plays a note, and the stage around the well shifts with your rhythm. Connected, the version on sale today, adds co-op and versus play across every major platform.
Tetris as a light show
The Journey mode walks you through more than thirty stages, each a small audiovisual piece: dolphins made of particles, a desert at dusk, a city at night. The music is built from your inputs, so a good run literally sounds better. It comes from Enhance, the team behind Rez Infinite and Lumines, and that pedigree shows.
Underneath the spectacle sits precise, modern Tetris. The Zone mechanic lets you freeze time, pile cleared lines at the bottom of the well and release them all at once for an enormous clear. It is the one new rule, and it is a brilliant one.
Connected changes the evening
Connected adds a three-player co-op mode where you share linked wells against computer bosses, plus Zone Battle, Score Attack and a Classic Score Attack that turns the lights down for purists. Crucially, cross-platform play covers PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Quest, so friends on different hardware can play together.
Weekly community events hand out free avatars. There is no shop, no currency and nothing to unlock with money.
Where it stumbles
The Journey itself lasts about three hours. Value depends on whether you enjoy chasing scores and playing with others. The Xbox One version also reviews noticeably lower than the rest, so newer hardware is the better home.
Who should buy it
Anyone who has ever liked Tetris, anyone with a VR headset, and anyone who wants a game to share with a partner or friend on a different console. It is one of the easiest recommendations on this site.

The checkout: buying Tetris Effect in the UK
On PC, Steam has the lowest regular price at £30.99. The Microsoft Store version, which covers Xbox and Windows, is £33.49. On PlayStation, the PS4 and PS5 versions are £34.99 each, and the Switch version is £35.99.
The notable route in is PS Plus Extra: the PS4 version is currently in the Game Catalogue, playable on a PS5 through backwards compatibility. If you already pay for Extra, that is the cheapest way to try it; if you love it, the PS5 version adds PS VR2 support.

The PS4 version is in the PS Plus Extra Game Catalogue (UK, checked 25 September 2026); the PS5 version is not. It launched in Xbox Game Pass in November 2020 but is not in Game Pass or PC Game Pass today.
