Your Microsoft account balance
The balance can only be topped up by redeeming a gift card, and it cannot be turned back into money. It can pay for Xbox subscriptions such as Game Pass, but keep a card on file for renewals. Limits are set in US dollars: about US$1,000 stored and US$1,000 a day.
Refunds
Microsoft says refunds for digital games are typically issued within 14 days of purchase if you have not played a significant amount. The often-quoted two-hour figure is not official. You can ask within 90 days, but not every request is accepted, and there are yearly limits on the number of refunds. Most in-game currency and consumables are not refundable once bought.
Ask at xbox.com/refunds. Decisions take up to 72 hours and go back to the original payment method within three to five working days; purchases made from your balance return to your balance. Xbox subscriptions can be refunded within 30 days of the first purchase or before the first renewal.
Pre-orders
If you pay by card, Microsoft charges around 10 days before release; if you pay from your balance, it takes the money straight away. You can cancel in Order history up to 10 days before launch.
